Ozarks Technical Community College’s MoMan Machine Tool Technology program provides fast track to employment
He had been incarcerated three years prior, and faced discrimination after being released, by employers who told him that they would like to hire him but could not because of company and insurance policies.
He worked several part-time and seasonal jobs, frustrated that he was unable to secure a full-time job.
He then found out about OTC’s MoManufacturingWINs 17-week certification program for Machine Tool Technology. He was reluctant at first, because math has always been challenging for him. However, he decided to move forward with the program. He immediately felt grateful for his MTT instructor, who has many years of experience in the profession. The student expressed how good the instructor was at explaining and training and also appreciated the hands-on approach to learning.
Upon completing the program he started sending out his resume, and within a week was contacted by an employer who wanted to interview him. The week after that interview, he was offered a permanent full-time position. So, he was literally hired only two weeks after having completed the program. The student was later contacted by another employer, who offered him better hours and a pay raise.
The student is very thankful to finally have found a career path that he truly enjoys in a field that does not discriminate against his past. He mentioned that he submitted about 10 applications for machining jobs and only two of those even asked about prior convictions.
The grateful graduate highly recommends this program and career path to anyone in a similar position desiring a steadier employment.
